The retention is a friction fit that snaps in over the battery and a retention strap.  The 7000/8000 radios tend to have heavier batteries.  Because of that added weight I only make this pouch with the retention strap. 

If you wear your radio on your belt and have an external vest you have probably experienced your vest changing the channel on your radio when you sit.  I got sick of that happening with my heavy vest, so I developed a "button shield."  It is a piece of CNC cut Kydex that attaches between the mount and the radio pouch and extends up over the Knobs.  You have plenty of room to slide your radio in and to adjust the buttons, but the shield protects the knobs when you sit.  This is also available as an add-on.

*This pouch is designed for the 7000/8000 radios that have the additional programing buttons on the back.  The radio is 6.5 inches tall.  If you have a shorter version of this radio, order the 6000 pouch.  

* Battery size information.  The pouch comes set for retention on the larger 3400 aMh battery.  You can tighten the retention screws in order to secure the smaller 2150 aMh battery.  Your battery size is printed on the info sticker of your battery. The larger the battery (past 3400 aMh) the "Taller" the battery becomes.  I would recommend a retention strap for anything larger that the 3400 aMh*

* Button Shield:  The hight of the radio in the pouch varies depending on your particular battery size.  We attempt to place the button shield at the "most common" hight for the specific radio model.  However, if you find it to high or too short, We have made it so you can adjust it.
